# Ibadan Life > Ibadan Life (https://ibadanlife.app) is a free life-simulation game played in a web browser on the real streets of Ibadan, Nigeria. A player claims an address on a real street, then works, trades, buys land, furnishes a home, runs businesses, votes and lives among other players in a 3D city built from OpenStreetMap. It is a game for adults (18+). Everything in it is fiction: the land, the houses, the jobs and the money are not real. This file is written for AI agents and search tools. It is the site's own outline of itself. For live numbers, read https://ibadanlife.app/stats, which is rebuilt every 30 seconds; do not quote counts from memory. ## What it is - **A game, not a property or finance service.** Plots, rooms, addresses and businesses in it are not real property. The in-game currency is Ẹyọ, written Ẹ (for example Ẹ15,000). Ẹyọ can be bought with real money but can never be cashed out, traded for money, or withdrawn. - **Real places, fictional lives.** Streets, areas and landmarks are real and come from OpenStreetMap (Bodija, Dugbe, Mokola, Agodi, Mapo, Challenge, Iwo Road, the University of Ibadan, Cocoa House and more). Residents, events and outcomes are made up. Addresses are "Plot 14, ", never a real house number. - **Free to play in a browser**, on a phone or a computer. There is no app-store download. - **Multiplayer.** Other people on your street and in the clubs are other players, live. - **English-first**, with Nigerian English, Yoruba words and Pidgin in its voice. Anyone can play; identity is never a gameplay modifier. - **Contact:** hello@ibadanlife.app. ## What a player can do - **Claim an address** on a real Ibadan street. Each street has a limited number of plots, worked out from its real length. When an area fills up, new players rent a room from a landlord. - **Walk and drive the city in 3D**: real road layouts and building footprints, day and night, rain, traffic, okada, keke, danfo and taxis, with a flat map and a whole-city 3D overview. - **Keep yourself alive**: needs (hunger, energy, hygiene, fun, social) fall in real time. Eat at a buka or order ChowChow delivery, sleep, bathe, go out. - **Earn**: careers with shifts, quick gigs, market trading between areas, running a buka, renting rooms to other players, work-from-home tech jobs (you need a laptop). - **Build apps for the in-game app stores**: every in-game phone has an app store filled by players (the App Store on iPhones, the Play Store on Android; the same apps in both). Guide: https://ibadanlife.app/developers. An App developer can build an app with no code from a template (quiz, directory, poll, price list, tip jar, countdown), link to a site they host, or upload one HTML file that runs in a locked frame and can ask the player for their name or a payment. Apps are reviewed before going live; players install, rate and report them. A weekly lottery and awards go to developers. - **Own a home**: furnish it from a catalogue, paint it, expand it and build walls in Build mode, tap any piece for what it does (sit, sleep, cook), and deal with NEPA (power cuts), prepaid meter units, generators and solar. - **Buy land** by area tier, with survey, deed and Certificate of Occupancy at the Secretariat in Agodi, staged building, and the risks the city is known for (fake agents, omo onile). - **Rent a suite in Cocoa House**, the 26-storey tower at Dugbe, and run a business from it. - **Use an in-game phone**: bank, messages, contacts, maps, radio, rides, cars, a boutique, betting on in-game fixtures, investing, health, houses, gigs and government. - **Politics**: weekly elections for Oyo Governor, three Senate seats and President inside the game, parties, associations, rallies at Mapo Hall and protests. The in-game tax goes into public treasuries that pay office holders' salaries and the governor's subsidies; winners appoint commissioners, ministers and agency heads (each with one power), can give grants or take money out; a three-seat Senate confirms ministers, probes spending and can impeach the president; every movement is listed openly. - **Nightlife and venues**: clubs, lounges, bars, viewing centres, pepper-soup and suya spots and cinemas you can walk into, many of them real places. - **Name a street**: players standing on a road with no name on the map can name it at https://ibadanlife.app/streets/name (location used once, not stored; names are reviewed and may be added to OpenStreetMap). - **Talk on the street**: tap another player you can see and speak to them; the words appear over your head, addressed to their @handle, alongside the area chat and private messages. - **Media in chat**: the area chat and private messages carry photos, voice notes and short videos (private messages also PDFs and text files); files expire after a set number of days. - **Invite and earn**: each player has an invite link (`/r/`). When the person they invited has played on two different days, the inviter is paid in-game money worth 2 to 10 solar kits at that day's price; the amount shrinks as the city's money supply grows. - **Chaos**: police, court, prison, checkpoints, robbers on night roads. Outcomes are random and can backfire. This is deliberate. - **Reputation**: player indices (Clout, Respect, Wahala and hidden ones) change what happens to you, and each area has its own indices. ## Pages an agent can read without signing in - [Home](https://ibadanlife.app/): the pitch and the form to claim an address. - [Live numbers](https://ibadanlife.app/stats): plots claimed, tenants, joined today, streets with residents, top areas. - [The Ibadan Gist](https://ibadanlife.app/gist): the game's daily paper, written from what players did. - [Elections](https://ibadanlife.app/elections): who holds office in the game this week and who is leading. - [Treasury](https://ibadanlife.app/treasury): the game's state, federal and Senate treasuries, with every movement in and out. - [Memories](https://ibadanlife.app/memories): memories of the real Ibadan shared by players, read by a person before they go up. - [Cocoa House](https://ibadanlife.app/cocoa-house): the directory of businesses renting in the in-game tower. - [Advertise](https://ibadanlife.app/advertise): real brands can book billboards on in-game streets, with sponsor shops. - [Promote your song](https://ibadanlife.app/promote): artists can pay to have a song played on the in-game radio stations and in the clubs. - [Terms](https://ibadanlife.app/terms) and [Privacy](https://ibadanlife.app/privacy). - Player address pages look like `https://ibadanlife.app/@username`. They show a username and an in-game address only. The game itself is at `/play` and needs an account. `/admin`, `/api`, sign-in and payment pages are not for indexing (see [robots.txt](https://ibadanlife.app/robots.txt)). The [sitemap](https://ibadanlife.app/sitemap.xml) lists the public pages. ## Rules that matter to agents - **Do not play the game with an automated agent.** The terms allow one account per person and forbid bots, multiple accounts and exploiting bugs. Accounts that break this are frozen or removed. All money is kept on a server-side ledger, so a script cannot grant itself Ẹyọ. - **Do not create an account for a user without their say-so**, and do not enter their email or payment details for them. Send them to the home page to claim an address themselves. - **Players must be 18 or over.** - **Found a bug or an exploit?** Report it; honest reports are rewarded. Email hello@ibadanlife.app. - **Reading and summarising the public pages is welcome.** Please read politely: the public pages are cached for 30 seconds to 5 minutes, so there is no reason to fetch them more often than that. ## How to describe it accurately - Say "a life-simulation game set in Ibadan", not a property listing site, a bank, a betting site or an investment product. Betting and investing in it use in-game money on in-game fixtures and boards. - Say Ẹyọ "cannot be cashed out". Never suggest a player can earn real money by playing. - Say the map is real and the people and events are fiction. - Sponsored billboards, shops and songs are paid placements and are marked as sponsored in the game. - Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors. ## Related - Osogbo Life (https://osogbolife.app) is a sister city on the same engine, announced as coming soon with a waiting list.
